KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University women's volleyball earned its first Cascade Collegiate Conference victory of the season with a 3-0 sweep of The Evergreen State College on Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Kristi Brodin Pavilion.
The Eagles took the three sets 25-13, 25-14 and 25-20 to improve to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in CCC play.
Northwest opened the match with a strong first set, hitting .294 as a team with 14 kills. The Eagles carried that momentum into the second set, recording nine kills while limiting Evergreen to a .000 hitting percentage.
The third set was more closely contested, with the teams tied at 14-14 before Northwest pulled ahead. The Eagles closed the match on a 5-1 run, including a kill from Teagan Schroeder, a service ace from Katelyn Bogetti, and a final kill from Jaelyn Moeva.
"Both teams played with terrific energy and Evergreen made us work for every point, especially in the third set," said head coach Steven Bain. "At the end of the night though, our ability to serve tough and keep them out of system turned the match in our favor and was the key to closing out the final set. We are looking forward to the next test on Friday."
Haylee Koetje and Jaelyn Moeva led Northwest with nine kills apiece. Koetje also recorded 11 digs and five service aces, while Moeva added four digs and a service ace. Chloe Kennedy finished with seven kills and hit .333, while Schroeder recorded six kills on nine attacks for a .556 hitting percentage.
Katelyn Bogetti directed the Eagles' offense with 32 assists and added four service aces. Sydney Faber led the team defensively with 16 digs.
Northwest finished the match with 37 kills, 35 assists, 10 service aces and 50 digs while hitting .247 as a team.
The Eagles return to action Friday, Sept. 25, hosting Warner Pacific at 6 p.m. at the Kristi Brodin Pavilion.
