Champions of Character is an NAIA-based non-profit organization with the mission to change the culture of sport. We seek to replace the current cycle of cheating, trash talking, taunting and out-of-control behaviors found in today’s sports culture with integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
As part of the NAIA Cross Country National Championships, competitors from around the country will join co-hosts Concordia University and the Cascade Collegiate Conference in conducting the following event to inspire the next generation of Champions of Character:
When: Thursday, November 19, 2009, 9-11:30 a.m.
Who: Approximately 200 high school students and NAIA cross country student-athletes
Where: Bo Jackson Building at the Nike World Headquarters
Why: To help inspire the next generation of Champions of Character!
The Champions of Character event will be held on the Nike campus. The program will feature five stations – one on each of the five core values of the Champions of Character (respect, responsibility, integrity, sportsmanship, and servant leadership). The stations will each involve an activity and message geared at teaching a particular core value.
Station content will be prepared in advance for participating teams. Teams can volunteer for one of two roles: Station Leaders or Group Leaders. Both roles will involve minimal advance preparation. Station Leaders will lead a station on one of the five core values. A one-page summary of the content, expectations and duties will be provided in advance for each team leading a station. Group Leaders will be assigned a group of high school students to guide through each of the five stations. The role of Group Leaders will be to interact with the students, join them in each station’s activity and reinforce the Champions of Character message along the way.
