CCC CHAMPIONSHIPS DAY TWO QUOTES

Hillary Holt – College of Idaho – SO – 1,500 meters
On her performance in the race …
“It felt really good. I was a little nervous about the altitude. I didn’t know how I was going to feel and how I was going to start out, but once the race got started I just got into a really good rhythm. I just stuck on the leader and did whatever they did. The race just went really good. I was surprised the altitude did not play a factor.”

On the conference’s 1,500 runners and her being champion …
“It feels good to be this conference’s champion. I won the event last year and obviously my goal was to win it again this year. It’s really an accomplishment to win in this conference. It also feels good because I’m coming back from a stress fracture and I had that adversity going into the season, so winning it this year means more to me than last year. To overcome that injury and win today it means a lot.”

On her goal for the national championship …
“Obviously my goal is to go out and win the national title. It was my goal in the indoor season and that’s when I got my stress fracture, so it means a lot now to avenge that injury in the outdoor season.”

Nate Moses – Concordia – JR – Discus
On adding onto a great season as conference champion …
“It feels good; I mean I just came into this trying to help my team win the conference title again. Winning the conference discus title just feels amazing.”

On setting a new conference meet record …
“It feels good to set the record because it was set by another Concordia athlete, Nik Kay, and he’s a great athlete. He was a national champion so to beat his record is just an outstanding thing to do.”

On the success of Concordia throwers …
“Well Mac is an amazing coach, with his Olympic gold medal, and his knowledge of the discus is outstanding. But, I think it’s more how we prepare during the season to become champions, while others just prepare to do well.”

Branko Djuricic – Concordia – SR – Triple Jump
On his triple jump performance …
“I had a pretty good day considering I was hurt just two weeks ago. It’s a pretty good sign for nationals. I’m excited now and now I will prepare for that in two weeks. I hope to have the same success I had last year, finishing top three in the country.”

Robbie Haynie – Eastern Oregon – SR – High Jump
On his 6 feet, 11 inch mark in the high jump …
“I did pretty well today. It wasn’t my best, but after running the hurdles and all that, I felt happy with it. It wasn’t the cleanest of makes, but you do what you have to do to win.”

On winning the high jump in this conference with the tough competition …
“It feels great to win in this conference. There’s really good jumpers in the conference. A lot of guys did well and competed. It’s been a great meet so far.”

On his aspirations for pole vault Saturday …
“You have no idea. I’m excited. Really excited. I got a new pole, and ready to use. I think I’m going to surprise some people.”
