Softball – Player of the Week
British Columbia’s Sydney Brown has been named the Red Lion Softball Player of the Week.
Brown, a senior short stop from Langley, B.C., led UBC to three CCC wins over Northwest Christian, which helped the Thunderbirds first clinch the league’s final playoff spot, and then fifth place in the standings by the end of the regular season. She had eight hits in 15 at-bats, with four runs batted in. She also delivered in the biggest situations over the week. In UBC's 6-5 Game 2 win, Brown hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning to allow Emily Chorpita to score the game-winning run. In Game 3, the speedy shortstop beat out a seventh-inning grounder to get an infield single that plated the game-tying run. The T-Birds won the game on the next play to complete a final-inning comeback from a 12-8 deficit. Brown improved her batting average by 21 points this weekend, and finishes the regular season with an average of .371.
