Eastern Oregon University’s Alex Navarro was named the Red Lion Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week.
Navarro, a senior from Benton City, Wash., broke the EOU cross country program record with an incredible race on Saturday for the Mountaineers. His time of 23 minutes, 51.0 seconds broke the previous record (24:00.0) that was set by EOU and NAIA Hall of Famer Don Stearns in 1982. Navarro shaved over a minute off hid previous best in an absolutely loaded field that included runners from the University of Calgary, Gonzaga, Idaho and Lewis-Clark State. He took seventh place overall, leading EOU to a seventh place team finish.
