No. 1-ranked Southern Oregon University’s Lauren Quirke was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Softball Pitcher of the Week.
Quirke, a five-foot-six senior pitcher/third baseman from San Mateo, Calif., became SOU's first player to throw a perfect game since the program was revived 20 years ago in Friday's 1-0 win over George Fox. She needed just 76 pitches with a career-high eight strikeouts to complete the feat. Quirke threw another complete game, without allowing an earned run Saturday against No. 23 Corban, improving to 4-1. Offensively, Quirke went 8-for-15 with two home runs, six RBIs, five runs scored and four stolen bases on as many attempts as SOU went 4-0 on the weekend.
