Bushnell University’s Kaylen Kamelamela was named the Embrace Health-Santiam Hospital Women’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Kamelamela, a five-foot-eight sophomore guard from Kapolei, Hawaii, led Bushnell to its ninth- and 10th-straight wins and back-to-back CCC championships with the weekend sweep of Eastern Oregon University. She scored 26 points on Friday, which was a career-high. In that game, she scored 14 points in the fourth quarter, including 12 of the final 14 points as Bushnell held on to win. On Saturday she scored 11 points in the first half as the Beacons jumped out to a 48-24 lead and had three steals during the 34-11 second quarter. Kamelamela finished with 19.5 points and 6.0 steals per game with a 66.7 field-goal percentage, including 85.7-percent from three-point range.
