Concordia’s Shantel Gritsch has been named the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week.
Gritsch, a sophomore from Gresham, Ore., went well beyond her season average with 6.36 digs per set in helping CU defeat NCAA DII Western Oregon and cross-town rival Warner Pacific last week, helping the Cavaliers extend its winning streak to 12 matches. Gritsch turned in the CCC’s third-best single-match dig total of the season with 33 digs against Western Oregon and returned with 18 digs in a three-set sweep of WPC. With the strong week, Gritsch moved up to No. 4in the CCC with 5.05 digs per set and has helped the Cavaliers lead the conference with 17.90 total digs per set, a number that ranks the squad No. 12 in the NAIA.
