Concordia’s Matthew Clowes has been named the Red Lion Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the week.
Clowes, a junior from Stoke-on-Trent, England, flirted with a sub 4-minute mile last Saturday, shattering the school record and posting the No. 1 time in the NAIA after crossing the line in 4:04.74…The time cut more than 7 seconds off his former school record and to shatter his own school record… Clowes had a previous school best of 4:11.57 set last season... Clowes hold a 10-lead for the top time in the NAIA as his 4:05.95 (converted from a 300-meter track) outperforms Olivet Nazarene’s Ethan Gallagher (4:15.03) by a considerable margin…In addition to his mile performance, Clowes recorded a second ‘A’ standard by hitting the automatic entry to nationals the 800-meter run with a 1:54.17.
