British Columbia’s Jeremy Newton has been named the Red Lion Baseball Pitcher of the Week.
Newton, a sophomore from Toronto, Ont., threw seven shutout innings to earn his first victory of the year as UBC triumphed 2-0 over No. 2 Lewis-Clark State on Saturday, March 1 at the Porter Park Classic, hosted by Concordia (Ore.) in Portland. The Toronto native scattered 11 hits but was superb in clutch situations, inducing two double plays and stranding eight Warriors runners on base. He didn't walk any batters and struck out four as held a Lewis-Clark State team that had been averaging seven runs a game off the scoreboard. Newton's victory helped UBC improve to 7-3 on the season.
