Knights Defeat EOU 2-1
PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific posted a 2-0 lead, then held off a late charge from Eastern Oregon in women’s soccer action at Portland Christian HS today.
Quality chances at goals were hard to come by for either team, as recent heavy rains soaked the field at PC. EOU generated 6 shots on goal in the first half compared the 2 for the Knights, but it was WP who got on the board first. Elissa Coutin converted a penalty kick at 33:45 of the first half.
WP added their second goal off the foot of Stephanie DeBoer at the 74:36 mark. After intercepting a clearance attempt by the Mountaineer defense, DeBoer looped an 18 yard shot into the right corner of the net.
EOU responded less than two minutes later on a corner kick opportunity. Lori Wilson curved a service to the far post where defender Jennifer Smalley was waiting to flick it home.
The visiting Mountaineers managed to create three more shots before the final horn, but the Knight defense held on to preserve the 2-1 victory.
Warner Pacific improves to 2-10-3 on the season and 2-5-1 in CCC play. Eastern Oregon falls to 4-8-0 and 4-4-0.
