PORTLAND, Ore. – Cody St. John scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Warner Pacific past College of Idaho 3-1 in men’s soccer action at David Douglas HS today.

The win maintains a one game lead in the CCC standings for the Knights with three games to play in the regular season.

The game was played under ideal conditions, as a gentle breeze accompanied a warm sun. St. John got things started in the 19th minute for WP, executing a give and go pass with Juan Castillo and scoring from 8 yards out.

Evan Lehner benefited from a St. John assist just 4 minutes later, taking his touch pass across the box and finishing from point blank. Alija Sacirovic made the initial crossing pass from left to right.

The 2-0 score in favor of the Knights was cut in half in the 49th minute, as Kazuki Murata hammered in a bouncing ball across the penalty area. Zach Veasy was credited with the assist.

WP would put the game out of reach in the 78th minute. Julian Esquivel corralled a ball in the box after Titus Palmquist kept a long throw by Andrew Scott in play. Esquivel scored from 5 yards away, and the Knight defense held off C of I for the last 12 minutes.

WP moves to 10-4-0 overall and 9-2 in CCC play. College of Idaho falls to 6-5-1 and 6-3-1.
