Lady Yotes Clinch Share of First-Ever CCC Title
PORTLAND, Ore. - A late goal by Chelsea Heffner proved to be the difference, as The College of Idaho women's soccer team clinched a share of their first-ever Cascade Collegiate Conference championship, defeating Warner Pacific, 1-0, at David Douglas High.
With the win, the Lady Yotes (13-2, 8-1 CCC) earn the No. 1 seed in the CCC Tournament - beginning Saturday afternoon. The C of I will host fourth-seeded Oregon Tech at Simplot Stadium, beginning at Noon. Concordia University, who shared the league crown with the Coyotes, will host Corban in the other semifinal.
With the win, the Coyotes established a new school record for wins in a season with 13 - moving past their record of 12, set last season.
The Yotes controlled the play for the majority of the game, but struggled in cracking the Knights (2-11-3, 2-6-1) defense - nearly scoring on a pair of corner kicks in the second half. However, Colleen Smith saw one header sail over the crossbar, another was blocked.
C of I got the winner with ten minutes remaining, as Erika Mouritsen played a ball down the right side, crossing it into the box to reserve Anne Ball. The sophomore slotted a ball to the waiting Heffner, who touched home her sixth goal of the season.
It was enough for Kelly Hardegree-Ullman and the Yote defense, who limited WP to just four shots on the afternoon - just two on goal.
