Eastern's Josh Landsverk scored a game-high 16 points Friday.
LEWISTON, Idaho -- The Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team eased past Montana State-Northern Friday night, 68-50, in the first game of the Cannon’s Building Materials Tournament.
Josh Landsverk led the Mountaineers (5-3) with a game-high 16 points. The senior shot 7 for 9 from the field and grabbed six rebounds in the victory. Jordan Gregg added 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Cody Thurmond had 13 points for EOU.
Landsverk made a jumper with 6:28 remaining in regulation to give Eastern its largest lead, 57-36. The closest the Lights would get in the second half was, 40-24, after Clay Greenland converted an EOU turnover into a lay-up with 16:35 remaining.
The Mountaineers held Northern (3-4) to 29 percent shooting from the field in the game, and 17 percent from behind the arc. Eric Tisby led MSUN with 15 points.
Eastern Oregon shot 52 percent from the field and made 3 of its 5 three-point attempts. Northern only turned the ball over nine times, but scored only 14 points off of the Mountaineers 15 turnovers. EOU outscored the Lights 34-20 in the paint, and outrebounded the Lights, 41-22.
Eastern faces the host school, Lewis-Clark State Saturday night at 7 p.m. Northern plays Cascade Conference member, The Evergreen State College, Saturday at 5 p.m. Evergreen beat LCSC Friday, 79-65, behind 30 points from Nate Menefee.
