PORTLAND, Ore. – Two first half goals from the Knights held up as Warner Pacific held off Oregon Tech 2-1 in men’s soccer action at a waterlogged David Douglas High School field today.

The win makes WP the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season champions for the first time since the program was reinstituted in 2000.

The game was played under a steady rain, with several spots on the artificial turf showing pools of standing water.

Warner Pacific was the aggressor in the first half, and struck first at the 10:20 mark. Joel Duenas booted one the of the Knights’ 10 corner kicks on the day into the box and found Tyber Parsons, who headed the ball cleanly into the net for the goal.

Duenas added his own goal 14 minutes later, streaking in from the right side and tapping home a long cross from Andrew Scott.

The visiting Owls came out of the halftime break determined to make it a contest. The 2-0 score in favor of the Knights was cut in half in the 49th minute, as Sam Holcomb hammered in a slotted pass from Rey Chavolla.

The Knight defense held off OIT for the rest of the match, as WP keeper Sean Ervin made 2 saves on the day.

WP moves to 12-4-1 overall and a league best 11-2-1 in CCC play. Oregon Tech finishes its season at 8-8-2.

As the #1 seed in the postseason tournament, Warner Pacific will host the winner of a playoff game between #3 seed Northwest and #2 seed Concordia. The game will be at David Douglas HS on November 14th. Kick off is at 1 p.m.

The CCC tournament winner earns the conference's automatic berth in the NAIA Championships, which get underway Nov. 21.
