PORTLAND, Ore.—Trailing by five at the break in its season opener, Concordia nearly doubled William Jessup in scoring the second half with a 66-52 win in non-conference women’s basketball action on Friday night.

Concordia will next take the floor by hosting Western Oregon on Nov. 14.

William Jessup hit only seven field goals in the first half, but with four three pointers added to 12 free throw conversions, the Warriors held a 30-25 lead at the half. The deficit could have been deeper for the Cavs as the visiting Warriors had 26-15 advantage with under four minutes to play, but a 10-4 run powered by a pair of buckets by Ann Snodderly cut the gap to five.

The momentum would continue after the intermission as the Cavaliers poured in 28 of the next 34 points on the court, taking the swing to a 53-36 lead. The Warriors would not recover, only getting as close to a 10-point hole after a Ashley Rose three with 2:10 to play.

Snodderly led CU with 14 points, one more than teammate Rachel Scarpelli and one less than the game-high of 15 by William Jessup’s Aleta Stamps. Rose also reached double figures in the scoring column with a dozen points that included a trio of three pointers. CU’s Sarah Eischen scored nine points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Eischen converted 5-of-6 from the free throw line while William Jessup’s Nicole Aboumrad went 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.

William Jessup outrebounded the Cavs 41-to-32 but shot just 33.3 percent from the field compared to a 41.8 percent clip for Concordia. The Warriors were also forced into 32 turnovers.
