Eagles Defeat OIT for Fifth Straight Win

KIRKLAND, Wash. – Northwest University, led by McKenzie McKean’s double-double, defeated Oregon Tech, 57-46, to win their fifth straight conference game and improve their CCC record to 5-1.

The Eagles took a slim, 29-26 lead into the locker room at halftime in the low scoring affair as Northwest U. was held to 27% shooting from 2-point FG range by the Owls of Klamath Falls. Oregon Tech shot 42% from 2-point range.
 
Tech would start the second half on a 6-0 run to take the lead, 33-29, with 17:11 to go in the game. NU would then go on an 8-0 run of their own capped off by Jessica Wilkerson’s 3-pointer, to take a 37-33 lead at the 11:41 mark. OIT’s Brittany Cherry would know the score at 39-all with her layup, but 4 straight Eagle baskets would put NU back on top, 43-39, with 6:59 left in the contest. A 3-point play by OIT’s Aundrea Albright would pull the Owls to within one, 43-42, but 4 straight points by NU’s Wilkerson would give Northwest U. a 45-42 lead and two free throws by McKenzie McKean would give the Eagles a seven point edge, 49-42 with 3:36 left on the clock. The Eagles would hold onto the lead the remainder of the way as Erika Hornyak’s two free throws would clinch the fifth win for NU in as many games with 19 seconds remaining in the game.
 
McKenzie McKean scored a game high 19 points for Northwest U. (9-5, 5-1 CCC) and grabbed 12 rebounds for the double-double. Senior Jessica Wilkerson added 15 points and 8 rebounds while sophomore Jessalyn Jackson (Vancouver, Wash.) contributed 10 points and gathered 9 rebounds for the Eagles.
 
Aundrea Albright led OIT (10-9, 3-4 CCC) with 12 points and 8 rebounds while teammates Kellie Morey-Lewis and Lisa Busch each score 10 points a piece for the Owls. Brittany Cherry grabbed a game high 15 rebounds for Oregon Tech. Tech won the battle of the boards with a 50-48 rebounding margin.

The teams resume conference play tomorrow night as Northwest U. hosts Southern Oregon in Kirkland and Oregon Tech travels to Olympia, Wash. to take on the Evergreen State College. Both games are scheduled for 5:30 p.m. starts.
