LA GRANDE, Ore. – The Eastern Oregon University women’s soccer team was defeated by Southern Oregon Friday, 3-0.
The Raiders (9-3-1) (3-1) got a pair of goals from Stephanie Carr and Denis Powell. Carr opened the scoring in the 19th minute with an assist from Danielle Stave. She scored again in the 75th minute dribbling through the Mountaineer defense and placing a ball low past EOU goalkeeper, Chantal Schefers. Powell sealed the win with an unassisted goal in the 86th minute.
Southern’s nine win start ties the second most wins in a season in the program’s history. The record for wins in a season is 11 set in 2003.
Eastern (2-6-1) (2-3) recorded eight shots in the game compared to SOU’s 21. The Raiders put eight shots on goal, while EOU two shots at the Southern net. Amanda Swenson had both scoring chances for Eastern Oregon.
Schefers made five saves for the Mountaineers, and Southern goalkeeper, Jessica Kuehlwein ended with a pair of saves.
Eastern hosts Oregon Tech Saturday at 2 p.m. Southern Oregon travels to The College of Idaho for a 2 p.m. Mountain Time start. C of I defeated OIT, 4-1, Friday in Caldwell, Idaho.
