Eagles Comeback Defeats Geoducks
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University came back from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the Evergreen State College, 3-1 today to open Cascade Conference play.
Evergreen State's (0-4-1, 0-1 CCC) Katie Mendoza (Fresh., Burien, Wash.) put the Geoducks in the early lead with her goal at the 35:12 mark in the firs half. Teammate and junior Brianna Speed (Seattle, Wash.) got credit for the assist.
Northwest U. (4-1-2, 1-0 CCC) got on the scoreboard seven minutes later as Abby Brauer (Jr., Kent, Wash.) put one into the goal net off the assist of Kelsey Frasier (Fresh., Vancouver, Wash.). Frasier then headed in the game winner at 56:35 in the second half from a crossing pass from senior midfielder Rachael Harris (Auburn, Wash.). Yanet Candido (Sr., Pasco, Wash.) clinched the game with her goal from a crossing pass from Kirstie Walton (Jr., Snohomish, Wash.).
NU out shot Evergreen State 25-7 and ESC goalie, Brienna Ewoldt had 8 saves for the Geoducks. Northwest goalkeeper Jessica Kane stopped 3 ESC shots on goal. Yanet Candido totaled 6 shots and Abby Brauer had 5 shots for the Eagles.
Northwest will be at home once again on Oct. 9 as the play host to Eastern Oregon in another CCC contest scheduled for 1 p.m.
