Lady Yotes Win 53rd-Straight CCC Home Match
CALDWELL, Idaho - Paced by five seniors playing their final regular-season home match in their careers, The College of Idaho volleyball team completed their fifth-straight unbeaten Cascade Conference home schedule in a row, defeating Northwest University, 25-18, 25-14, 20-25, 25-13, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The No. 13 ranked Lady Yotes (18-4, 14-1 CCC) won for the 29th-straight time at home and their 53rd-straight CCC home win – while moving a half-game ahead of idle Southern Oregon in the CCC standings.
Set 1 saw the Coyotes break an 8-8 deadlock with a six-point push, helped by a trio of Ciciley Fox kills and one of six Sarah Harris spikes in the frame – grabbing the early lead. Set 2 saw the Yotes close the period on a 9-1 run, as The C of I combined for five combo blocks in the set.
The Eagles (14-7, 9-5) rebounded in Set 3, erasing an early 9-5 deficit – forcing ten ties in the period. With the score deadlocked at 20-20, NU scored the final five points of the set, with back-to-back Molly Boyle kills extending the match.
The finale was all C of I, as the Yotes sprinted out to a 16-7 lead on a Lauren Bourgeau kill – finishing the match off on a combo block from Liz Myers and Danielle Montalbo.
The senior class was key tonight for the Coyotes – as Harris led the way with 14 kills and nine blocks, with Bourgeau adding ten kills and five blocks. Madie Machurek had her third-straight double-double with 23 assists and 11 digs, Naomi Reimer had 23 assists, and Whitney Owen had 23 digs. Fox notched ten kills, while Myers had nine kills and five blocks for The C of I.
The Eagles were paced by Lauren Holtz with 14 kills, with Boyle and Sarah Stoker each notching seven kills. Lauryn Ernster had a big night with 36 assists and 11 digs, while libero Heather Shulke led NU with 19 digs.
The Lady Yotes close out the regular-season on the road with a trio of matches, the first next Friday at Eastern Oregon.
