EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University volleyball team came within one service ace of a school record on Tuesday night and Freshman Lia Davey (Cottage Grove) led the way with five aces as the Beacons swept Multnomah University, 25-16, 25-13, 25-13 in the Morse Event Center.
Northwest Christian collected 16 aces in the match, including three from Bridget Marasigan and two apiece from Danielle Nance and April Gehring, and were just one shy of the single-match record set in 2007 against the same opponent. The Beacons improve to 8-0 all-time against the Lions, having never dropped a set.
The Beacons (7-17) were led on the attack by Emily Miller, who collected 14 kills and hit .367. Nance added seven kills and a game-high three block assists and Amber Kraaz hit .444 with five kills and two blocks. Gehring, a freshman setter making her collegiate debut, led all players with 18 assists. Dana Clark recorded a match-high ten digs in the victory.
Multnomah (9-16) was led by Kaitlyn Reidt, hitting .444 with four kills and zero attacking errors. Megan Collier also had four kills and Laura Connick added three kills and a team-high eight digs. Christy Reed had the only solo block of the match as the Lions were out-blocked 5-1 on the night, and Kari Anderson registered a team-leading 13 assists.
Northwest Christian, the winners of two of their last three matches, remain at home over the weekend with Cascade Collegiate Conference matches scheduled against Oregon Tech on Friday (7:00 pm) and #17 Southern Oregon on Saturday (1:00 pm).
