BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore. --
Although all three sets were close early, Concordia pulled away in each to sweep host Multnomah 3-0 (25-13, 25-11, 25-10) in a non-conference Volleyball match at Lytle Gymnasium.

The win improves CU's record to 12-6, while the loss drops Multnomah to 6-10 on the year.

Multnomah opened the first set quickly, taking a 4-1 lead before a six-point streak gave the Cavs a 7-5 advantage. The hosts remained within two at 9-11, but a 14-4 streak gave the Cavaliers the set victory. Clair Thiel posted eight of her nine kills in the set to go with setter Lindsay Mangan's 14 assists. Mangan finished the night with 34 assists.

The Lions took a brief 2-1 lead in the second set before the Cavs used four streaks of at least four points to pull away to the 25-11 set win. Concordia closed the set on an 11-2 run.

Five of the third set's first six points came on service aces and errors. After a brief 3-1 lead, the Lions stayed close at 6-8 before a 17-4 run that included an eight-point streak put the match away for the Cavaliers.

Sara Harper and Cassandra Koering each posted season-high kill totals, as Harper finished with a match-high 11 and Koering ended with six.

The Cavaliers put together their best defensive effort of the season, limiting the Lions to a -.023 attack percentage. Concordia's defense has held an opponent to a negative attack percentage only one other time this season, when the Cavs held Warner Pacific to -.021 on Sept. 10.

Kari Anderson finished with a team-high 10 assists for Multnomah. Laura Connick led the hosts with five kills.

Concordia plays its next contest at Warner Pacific, Friday night at 7 p.m.
