PORTLAND, Ore. – Lewis & Clark made 18 of 32 attempts from three point range, including 11 of 14 in the second half to edge Warner Pacific 87-84 in a non-conference clash at C.C. Perry Gym tonight.

The Pioneers’ PJ Taylor was the main culprit as he hit 9 of 12 from beyond the arc and finished with 34 points on the night.

The host Knights led by three at the break (37-34) but found themselves down 15-9 in the early stages of the game. Back to back treys from Biniam Tadele and Nick Schultens tied the game 15-15 at the 11:55 mark. Two free throws from Schultens gave WP their largest lead of the half at 36-27, but Lewis & Clark closed the period on a 6-0 run.

Warner Pacific started the second period with a 9-2 run to post their largest lead of the game at 45-35 with 17:26 to play. The Pioneers continued to fire away from distance however, and claimed the lead for good on a Donato Perconti triple with 8:39 remaining.

PJ Taylor’s final three pointer of the night provided L & C with their largest lead of the game (83-74) with 1:27 on the clock. The Knights fought back behind another trey from Tadele and two more from Schultens to cut the Pioneer lead down to a single point (85-84). Two free throws from Taylor pushed the margin back to three with .08 seconds to play, and Warner Pacific could not get off a shot as time expired.

Schultens and Tadele led Warner Pacific with 18 points each, while Webster Moreland (13 points, 16 rebounds) and Diego Herrejon (13 points, 12 rebounds) each posted double-doubles.

In addition to Taylor’s 34 points, James Hollins dropped in 24 points and 8 rebounds for Lewis & Clark.

The Knights fall to 4-2 on the season, while Lewis & Clark improves to 4-0.
