BABSON PARK, Fla. – The Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team made a school-record 17 three-pointers to beat Warner University, 85-50, at the Warrior Turkey Shootout Friday.
The Mountaineers (6-1) made 17 of their 31 three-point attempts, which matches the second highest total of made three-pointers in Cascade Collegiate Conference history. EOU finished shooting 54 percent from the field.
Eastern’s Shaylee Nielsen came off of the bench to make 5 of her 8 shots from behind the perimeter for 15 points. Vintea Georges led all scorers with 19 points. The junior was 8 for 9 from the floor with six rebounds. Nicole Redd added 14 points. Samantha Flett threw a game-high six assists and had six rebounds as well.
Ivana Soberal led the Royals (0-3) with nine points. Sammie Clark had a team-high five rebounds, and Shawnelle Campbell had six assists. Warner shot 27 percent from the field, 20 percent from behind the arc, and 55 percent from the free-throw line.
After the Royals scored the opening basket, EOU took a 14-2 lead. The Mountaineers had their largest lead in the first half at 41-19 at the 2:06 mark. A Redd three-pointer gave Eastern Oregon its largest lead at 85-48 with 1:55 left.
Warner finished with 12 turnovers while it forced 21 Mountaineer turnovers. Eastern outrebounded the Royals, 53-28, and had 23 assists to Warner’s 12 assists.
The Mountaineers play the host of the Warrior Turkey Shootout, Webber International University, Saturday at 4 p.m. PT. The Warriors (1-1) and Eastern meet for the first time.
