KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Oregon Tech women’s basketball team used a 34-for-37 effort from the charity stripe, including 12-of-12 from Brittany Cherry, to head off William Jessup University by an 87-77 final in game 2 of the Yellow Cab Classic tonight at Danny Miles Court.

Nine Oregon Tech players finished in the scoring column, led by Cherry’s game-high 20 points to go with a game-high eight rebounds in the Owls’ second win over WJU this season. Crissy Watts scored 11 of her 16 points in the first half to help the Owls to a 46-38 lead at intermission. Kassi Conditt came off the bench to score 15 points, while Morgan Hofman added 12 points and five assists for Tech.

Ashley Rose led the Warriors with 16 points, followed by Rachelle Russell with 12 and Cassie Davidson adding 10 points and a team-high five rebounds.

William Jessup scored the first four points of the game before the Owls would tie the contest at 7-7. Oregon Tech took control over the next six minutes, moving out to a 10-point advantage on an Aundrea Albright jumper with 11:15 remaining in the first period. Two Brittany Cherry free-throws then gave Tech their largest lead of the first half at 28-16.

William Jessup then came roaring back to eventually pull to within a point, 36-35, with just over three minutes remaining.

The Owls answered the WJU run, and after a Colleen Hunt 30-footer at the buzzer, took a 46-38 advantage to intermission.

Oregon Tech would eventually move out to a 70-54 lead, and with eight minutes to play looked to move on for an easy win. However, the Warriors would not go away easily.

WJU took advantage of several Owl miscues and with seven minutes on the clock the Owls were only up 70-64. WJU pulled to within two points, 70-68, with 6:15 to play but would never get closer.

An 8-0 run gave the Owls some insurance, and a 78-68 lead, with just three minutes to play. The teams would trade points for the remainder, as the Owls moved on for an 87-77 win.

Oregon Tech moves to 7-6 with the win and will host Cal Maritime Academy tomorrow at 5:30 PM. William Jessup (0-11) faces Southern Oregon University in the 3:30 PM game.
