Northwest Jumps Out Early to Defeat Corban
KIRKLAND, Wash. - #14 Northwest University broke out early as they defeated Corban University, 93-62, in Cascade Conference play tonight in the NU Pavilion.
Northwest led 21-9 in the first 7 minutes of the game after Corban had closed the lead to 11-7 at the 15:00 mark. The Eagles then went on an 8-2 run to increase their lead to 29-11 by the 10 minute mark capped off by Greg Peters' layup after a Greg George missed shot. Daley Landon's 3-pointer after a Stedman Richardson steal with 6:30 to go in the half gave Northwest their largest lead of the half, 36-15. Corban would battle back late in the half and score 8 straight points in the final 1:53 of the half to closed the gap to 47-32 as the teams headed to the locker room.
In the second half, Northwest would again increase their lead to 20 points, 60-40, after a Jordan Call 3-pointer. NU would heat up to shoot 62% from beyond the 3-point arc making 5 of their 8 attempts in the second stanza. The Eagles would go on a 13-4 run and find themselves up 73-44 after a Greg Peters' tip in with 10:30 to go in the game. Northwest would maintain their lead the remainder of the way to cruise to their ninth win of the season and improve their CCC mark to 3-1.
Five Northwest U. (9-2, 3-1 CCC) scored in double figures led by senior Greg George (Seattle, Wash.) with 14 points and 7 rebounds. Senior Daley Landon (Waterville, Wash.) and junior Ahmaad Cook (Los Angeles, Calif.) each score 12 points. Junior Jordan Call (Kirkland, Wash.) contributed 11 points and senior Greg Peters (Belmont, St. Vincent) registered a double-double with 10 points and a game high 13 rebounds. The Eagles shot 50% from the 3-point line and out rebounded Corban 45-32.
Corban University (7-4, 0-3 CCC) was led by 6-8 Erik Cronrath's 16 points and 6 rebounds. Brian Martin scored 8 points hit 41% of their shots and 27% of their 3-point attempts. Corban's second leading scorer, Jordan Carter, was held to 7 points on the night, 7 points below his season average and Ian Logan was limited to 7 points, under his 11.9 ppg average.
