Cavs Cruise with 90-59 Win over Thompson Rivers

PORTLAND, Ore.—Staking a 21-5 lead through the first seven minutes, Concordia handled Thompson Rivers (B.C.) 90-59 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Sunday night.
With the result, Concordia snapped a five-game losing skid and improved to 5-8 on the season. The game represented an exhibition match for the WolfPack.
Twelve different Cavaliers scored in the contest, including four in double figures with Austin Dunn connecting on 6-of-9 from the floor and 3-of-4 from the free throw line to score a team-leading 15 points.
Kevan West and Gage Aker both had 14 points while Adam Herman added 13 points.
After collecting a 16-point lead midway through the first, Concordia saw the WolfPack cut the deficit to eight via a pair of free throws by Tim Unaegbu at the 7:28 mark with the score 26-18.The final seven minutes, however, was all Concordia as the Cavs went on a 12-4 run to finish the half and secure a 38-22 advantage at the break.
A Dustin Hiebert three at the 15:40 point stretched the gap to 24 points with the score 52-28 and the Cavs would go up by as many as 36 points late in the game on a layup by Nick Kunis in the final moments before settling in the 31-point win.
Kevin Pribilsky led Thompson Rivers with 11 points while teammate Brett Rouault chipped in with nine points.
Concordia outrebounded the WolfPack 48-35 with Herman grabbing nine boards and Aker reaching for eight caroms. Christopher Kok and Travis Beck shared the team lead for TRU with eight rebounds each.
Concordia finished an even 50 percent from the floor by hitting 32 of their 64 attempts while TRU was held to 33.9 percent after hitting 20-of-59 of their attempts.
Concordia will return to action on December 30 when it resumes Cascade Collegiate Conference action by traveling to Eastern Oregon. The following day, the Cavs will travel to face College of Idaho with both matches set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
