Chad Yeggy tossed a two-hit shutout in Game 2 win over Whitman
CALDWELL, Idaho - Diego Robles went a combined 4-for-5 with a double, home run, and four RBI, helping The College of Idaho to a doubleheader sweep of Whitman College, 10-2 and 3-0, at Wolfe Field.
Robles got the Coyotes (4-2) on the board in the opening frame, golfing a two-run homer down the left field line. The C of I would add sacrifice flies in each of the next two innings to push the margin to 4-0. Whitman would get a run back in the fourth on a Jason Sease RBI single.
Leading 5-2 in the seventh, the Yotes would break the game open, getting RBI singles from Jared Arehart and Robles in the sixth, and a two-run Jye Lanphere single to make it 9-2.
It was enough for Jacob Coats, who won his second-straight start, going seven innings of six-hit ball, striking out four.
Arehart and Jordan Lanman each had two hits in the Game 1 win, with Lanphere logging three RBI. The Missionaries (0-6) saw catcher Erik Korsmo go 3-for-4 with two runs scored.
Game 2 was dominated by Chad Yeggy, who tossed a two-hit shutout – not allowing a runner into scoring position in the seven inning win.
The Yotes got on the board in the second, as Jarel Lewis led off with a double and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt, then scored on a Ben Rosen sacrifice fly. They’d take advantage of an error in the fourth to make it 2-0, then capped the scoring in the fifth as Tyler Andazola led off with a triple and scored on a Dan Harrington double.
Robles and Alex Reyes each had two hits for the Coyotes, while Korsmo and Blaine Mercado had the Whitman safeties. Korsmo was solid on the mound for the Whits in the loss, allowing seven hits and just two earned runs.
The two teams complete the four-game series tomorrow with a doubleheader, beginning at noon.
