Hot Shooting Lifts Knights Over SOU
PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific used a season best shooting effort to run away from Southern Oregon 79-58 in CCC women’s basketball action tonight.
The host Knights (17-9, 12-5 CCC) hit for a lofty .577 percentage from the field including .708 in the second half, while holding the visiting Raiders (18-10, 7-10 CCC) to 34 percent. Katie Harris led the way in accuracy with a perfect 6 for 6, including 2 for 2 from three point range.
It was Southern Oregon that posted an early 9-2 lead however, as Warner Pacific turned the ball over four times in the first five minutes. WPC overcame the slow start and gained the lead (15-14) at the 8:11 mark on a Maya Gross layup and led 35-22 at halftime.
The Knights added to their advantage in the second half by shooting 17 of 24 from the field in the period. Kristina Schumacher would score 16 of her game high 20 points in the half.
Marissa Towry added 15 points and 9 rebounds for WP. Harris equaled her season high with 15 points.
Ashley Baker and Jamie Roupp led SOU with 12 points each. High scoring post Jacki Speer was held to 8 points on 1-12 shooting on the night.
The Knights host Oregon Tech tomorrow night in their regular season final, while Southern Oregon heads across Portland to face Concordia. Seniors Caitlin Morgan, Danica Wilson, Katie Allen, Stephanie Rider, Marissa Towry, Maya Gross, and Kristina Schumacher will be honored before the game.
