BOX SCORE

PORTLAND, Ore.—Down by 15 halfway through the second half, Southern Oregon went on a 28-10 run to end the game to snatch a 78-75 win in the closing moments against Concordia in men’s basketball action on Saturday night.

With the result, SOU improved to 12-15 overall and 4-14 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference and finished ninth in the league standings, one game shy of the final conference tournament berth. The Cavaliers ended their regular season with a 15-14 overall mark and a 5-13 record in the CCC to nab the league’s No. 7 seed. Concordia will travel to face No. 2-seeded Eastern Oregon in the opening round of the CCC Tournament on Wednesday, February 24. Opening tip is set for 7:30 p.m. in La Grande, Oregon.

Shooting .515 from the field, Concordia held a double-digit lead in the first half before settling for n eight-point advantage at the break with the score 43-35. The Cavs extended its lead to 15 on a Greg McFarland three pointer with 10:17 to play but it would be almost all Raiders highlights from then on as SOU would hit four of its last six attempts from three-point territory to storm back into the game and eventually take the lead on a Humphrey Jackson trey with 39 seconds remaining for a 76-75 score.

The Raiders would add two points on a pair of Jarrad Childs free throws with 18 seconds to go to give SOU 78-75 lead. The gap would prove enough as an unbalanced three by Jeff Sego with two seconds remaining would clang off the rim to guarantee the SOU win.

Hitting 6-of-10 from long range, Jackson led the Raiders with 22 points. Ryan Staker added 17 and Childs 15. Concordia was paced by 15 points from McFarland while Alex Tiefenthaler finished with 14. Drew Preuninger and Jourdan Sweeney finished with 13 points and Dustin Hiebert 11 as five CU players reached double figures in the scoring column.

The Cavs outshot the Raiders .443 (27-of-61) to .429 (30-of-70) but were outperformed on the boards as SOU corralled 47 rebounds to CU’s 36.
