Concordia-Irvine Drops Concordia-Portland 3-1

PORTLAND, Ore.— Facing a 1-0 deficit early in the game, Concordia-Irvine generated three unanswered goals to knock off Concordia-Portland in non-conference men’s soccer action at Delta Park on Sunday.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating Evergreen State on Friday. The game represented the season opener for the Cavaliers.
Concordia-Portland’s Zack Madison, a junior defender, struck early with a long-ranged drive in the fifth minute of play. From over 25 yards out, Madison’s sailed over the keeper’s reach to give the home Concordia the early edge.
Undaunted, CU Irvine squared the match at 1-1 with a 27-yard free kick from Roi Castro in the 15th minute of action. The Eagles took the lead in the 21st minute as Carlos Suarez, who just came off the bench and into the game moments earlier, was able to collect the ball deep in the box for an easy tap from seven yards out.
Bruno Sad put more distance on the Cavaliers with an 18-yard dart into the upper right corner after a feed from William Vasquez in the 57th minute.
The Eagles finished with a slim lead in overall shots (9-to-7) and corner kicks (5-to-4) but were charged with 16 fouls to 10 for the Cavaliers.
Mike Radchuk collected the win in goal after allowing just the one goal while stopping three shots. With two saves, Claudio Lazar was charged with the loss.
Concordia-Portland resumes its season on August 29 when it hosts the University of Great Falls at Delta Park. Opening kick is set for 1 p.m. in Portland.
