KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University women’s soccer team broke out of a season-long scoring slump on Friday, putting a 9-0 pounding on Mills College of California. Freshman Allie Bissett (pictured) scored four goals for the Beacons to tie an NCU single-game record also held by junior Karli Vath.
The Beacons had a 36-shot barrage on the Mills goal on Friday, including 22 shots on goal. NCU broke through with their first goal of the season, a punch in for Bissett in the 20th minute after a crossing pass from Jeneca Hoidal went through the hands of the Cyclones goalkeeper.
In the 31st minute, Bissett scored again, taking a shot to the left side of the goal off a pass from Karli Vath. The freshman forward completed the hat trick just 1:15 later, tapping in the empty netter off a cross from Rachel Urista.
In the 40th minute it was Vath’s turn to find the net, firing a 20-yard strike into the lower right corner of the goal which gave the Beacons a 4-0 lead that they would take into halftime.
NCU picked up where they left off in the second half, with Bissett getting her school-record tying fourth goal in the 56th minute with a header off a cross from Elizabeth Jablonksi. Just three minutes later Vath put in her second of the night, dribbling around the keeper for an empty netter, making it 6-0.
Brittany McKinley was the next to put one on frame, hitting a 40-yard bomb into the upper right corner in the 59th minute. Vath proceeded to complete her own hat-trick in the 68th minute. It was the third hat-trick of her career.
In what was clearly the quickest back-to-back goals in school history, Sarah Leonard took a turnover off the ensuing kick-off, and hit a 26-yard shot on the run just four seconds after Vath’s goal, making it a 9-0 final in favor of NCU.
Northwest Christian (1-3-1) registers their second shut-out of the season, behind a split performance in goal by senior Ali Foster and freshman Kyla Walley. Each went 45 minutes, with Foster getting one save on the Cyclones only shot-on goal. Mills finished the game with three total shots.
The Beacons will be back in action on Monday as they return home to take on Lewis & Clark College (1-0-2) for a 7:00 pm start.
