BOX SCORE
SALEM, Ore.—Top-ranked Concordia University defeated Fresno Pacific 1-0 in the team’s second and final game of action at the Corban Classic on Saturday.
With the win, Concordia improved to 6-0-0 on the season while FPU fell to 1-4-0.
The Cavaliers dominated in the final tally for overall shots by taking 28 attempts but could not find the net until late in the contest.
In the 77th minute, Jackie Hendrickson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Rampart H.S.) finally broke through to give CU the only score it would need to secure the victory as its defense posted its sixth straight shutout to start the season.
“Soccer is a funny game. Yesterday everything we put on frame went in and today was one of those games where we created a lot of chances but just had a hard time getting the goals,” Landy said.
Hendrickson’s goal was her second in two games in Salem and her third of the season which moved her into a tie for the team lead.
“They had a good game plan and did a good job trapping us,” Landy said. “In the second half we really played well offensively and defensively. As a coach, it was nice to see the team listen and make the adjustments at half time.”
Concordia will return to action when it travels to face a pair of national-ranked teams in Kentucky. The Cavaliers will face No.6-ranked Lindsey Wilson College (3-1-0) on Friday, Sept. 17 before facing No. 5-ranked Martin Methodist (2-0-1) on Saturday.
“When we agreed to go out there we knew we were putting us in the place that will replicate a national tournament game feel,” Landy said. “It will be a great experience for the girls. It’s a win-win to play good teams on the road. It will be a great gauge to see where we are at.”
