CALDWELL, Idaho - Zach Veasy scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, helping The College of Idaho remain unbeaten in Cascade Conference play, defeating Evergreen State, 2-1, at Simplot Stadium.
One minute after the Geoducks (0-4-1, 0-2 CCC) pulled even on an Obed Kouasi goal, the Yotes retook the lead, as Brad Byers looped a free kick into the far side of the box, finding the waiting foot of Veasy, who flicked home the winner.
The game started inauspiciously, as 30-seconds into the contest, Evergreen keeper Christian Pettit collided with a teammate and was injured – forcing emergency keeper Peter Durland into the game.
The Yotes (3-2, 2-0) got on the board in the 12th minute, as Brian Buckingham headed home a corner kick from Byers. Evergreen nearly tied it in the 36th minute, as Brice Baum eluded C of I keeper Aaron Reynolds inside the six-yard box, but his shot was cleared off the goal line by Michael Meyer.
The C of I held an 18-10 edge in shots, with Reynolds recording four saves in the win in goal. Despite the loss, Durland had six saves for the Geoducks.
The Yotes return to action next weekend, beginning a four-game road swing with games at Oregon Tech and Northwest Christian.
