NU's James Kerr scored two goals in the win over Walla Walla.
Eagles Get Second Straight Win
KIRKLAND, Wash. - The NU Eagles scored early and often as they cruised to a 5-1 victory over Walla Walla University in a non-conference contest this afternoon on the NU Athletic Field.
Luke Fischer got the Eagles on the scoreboard with his goal 5 minutes into the game off the assists of teammates Daniel Bechtel and Mason Abdalla. At 18:46, the Eagles were benefactors of a WWU own goal as a shot from NU's Drew Jensen deflected off a WWU player and into the goal. Alex Taylor continued his scoring output from last season with his goal at the 20:23 mark. Credit Scott Schnitzer with the assist. James Kerr scored the first of two consecutive goals ten minutes later as he put one into the back of the net off an Alex Taylor assist. Kerr finished the Eagles' scoring with his second goal 39:09 into the first half with Drew Jensen getting the assist.
Kevin Nateras finally got the Wolves on the board off a nice pass over the NU defenders as he put one past the NU goalkeeper from 15 yards out.
The Eagles substituted liberally in the second as 22 NU players got to see some action. Joe Galbraith put in another efficient day in goal for Northwest with 4 saves and his second win of the young season.
NU out shot WWU 24-10 and Walla Walla goalkeeper, Jon McLane saved 6 Eagle shots on goal.
"In the first half, I felt we dominated and played well," stated Head Coach Gary McIntosh. "We showed good composure on the ball and had good passing throughout the first half." McIntosh continued, "Joe (Galbraith) was great for us in goal again getting a shutout in the first half. In the second half, we took out most of our starters to allow the second team some time on the field. I was hoping for a shutout and a better performance in the second half but I'm pleased to get the win."
Northwest U. will host WWU again tomorrow (Friday) in a rematch at 3 p.m.
