Eagles Get 4th and 5th Straight Victories
PORTLAND, Ore. - The Northwest University Eagles volleyball team swept Walla Walla U. and Whittier College (Calif.) today for their fourth and fifth straight sweeps in three days to conclude their matches in the Northwest Conference Invitational at Lewis & Clark College.
In the 10 a.m. morning match, Northwest U. cruised past Walla Walla University, 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-12) for their fifth win of the season. Junior Anu Akamine (Hauula, Hawaii) and freshman Sarah Stoker (Olympia, Wash.) led the Eagles with 6 kills each. Lauryn Ernster (Soph., Bothell, Wash.) had a team high 19 assists and 5 kills while Heather Shulke (Jr., Castle Rock, Wash.) contributed 10 digs. Senior outside hitter Lauren Hotlz (Brier, Wash.) had 5 kills for NU.
Two hours later, NU (6-2, 1-0) took on Whittier College of California and swept them, 3-0 (25-13, 25-9. 25-13), for their sixth win of the season and their fifth straight sweep of the weekend. Akamine led the team again with 15 kills and Lauryn Ernster capped off an oustanding weekend with a match high 32 assists and 16 digs. Kacie Simpson (Sr., Renton, Wash.) had 7 kills while Lauren Holtz had 6 kills and 11 digs. Heather Shulke added 12 digs for the Eagles.
Northwest U. will remain on the road next weekend for two Cascade Conference games with Corban University in Salem and Northwest Christian University in Eugene before returning home September 17.
