KIRKLAND, Wash. – Trinity Lutheran avenged their loss one week ago in Everett by defeating Northwest University, 4-1, today in a non-conference game and handing NU their first loss of the season.

Sergio Martinez came off the bench to score two of TLC’s four goals including the game winner at the 41:22 mark of the first half. Eduardo Alves got the Eagles on the scoreboard early, just 5 minutes and 44 seconds into the first half with his goal and Joshua Atondo score the third goal for TLC seven minutes into the second half. Martinez capped off the scoring for TLC with his second goal at 55:51 in the second half.

Northwest U. (3-1) out shot TLC 16-13, but only managed a single goal at 60:15 Luke Fischer off an assists from teammate Nickey Ricks.

“Trinity played well today,” stated NU Head Coach Gary McIntosh. “We made too many mistakes and Trinity capitalized on them. I feel that we need to have better communication and do a better job of taking care of the ball.” McIntosh continued, “Our game today lacked creativity and a good attack. These are all things that can be fixed. We have some time now before the start of conference to get back out at practice and work on some of these things and this time off will also allow all the guys to heal up and be ready for the first conference game.”

Goalkeeper Brent Gonzales got the win for TLC and had 3 saves on the day while Joe Galbraith had 3 saves in goal for Northwest.

Northwest U. will now have a break before going on the road for their first two Cascade Conference games on September 17 at the College of Idaho in Caldwell and Sept. 18 in Portland against Warner Pacific.
