PORTLAND, Ore. – Warner Pacific outscored an upset minded Concordia team 12-3 in the last 4:24 to earn a 78-68 victory at tonight at a packed C.C. Perry Gym.

The win for the Knights is their fifth in a row and improves their record to 13-7 overall and 6-4 in CCC play. Concordia falls to 7-14 overall and 1-9 in league action.

Both teams had a hard time scoring the ball early in the game, as each team tried to solve the other’s zone defense with long range shooting that was not successful. WP’s Nick Schultens did manage to get going by draining a pair of three pointers within a two minute span. A layin from the Knights’ Diego Herrejon gave the home team their largest lead of the half (21-12) at the 8:54 mark, but a quick 5-0 run from Concordia closed the gap. Warner Pacific maintained a slim lead the rest of the period and settled for a 38-33 lead at the break.

CU’s Adam Herman scored the first basket of the second half to make the score 38-35, but Warner Pacific went on a 10-0 burst to open up their largest lead of the game at 48-35. Undeterred, Concordia chipped away at the lead and cut the WP advantage to one point on 4 different occasions, the last time at 66-65 with 4:24 on the clock. The Knights never surrendered the lead however, and Webster Moreland keyed the final push with six points including a rim shaking alley-oop dunk.

Traevone Bowie led Warner Pacific with 19 points, while Moreland added 16 points and eight rebounds. Stephen Harris played his best game of the season for the Knights, getting his first start and scoring 10 points and grabbing seven rebounds.
