Second Half Goals Down Yotes
KIRKLAND, Wash. - Northwest University scored two second half goals to defeat the College of Idaho, 2-0, this afternoon under sunny skies. The win helps the Eagles maintain their hold on second place in the Cascade Conference, two points behind league-leading Concordia and 6 points ahead of third place Warner Pacific.
A scoreless first half turned into a defensive battle with neither team willing to give up a score. Northwest managed 9 shots to C of I's 5
Joel Pelton scored the Eagles' (8-2-3, 7-1-1 CCC) first goal 15 yards out right of center into an open net in the 64th minute. Just onne minute and 36 seconds later, Luke Fischer found the ball in a crowd 7 yards out and his shot hit the crossbar, bouncing into the goal.
Northwest outshot C of I (5-8, 4-5 CCC) 18-11 as the College of Idaho’s goalkeeper, Aaron Reynolds had 7 saves for the Yotes and NU’s Joe Galbraith earned the shutout with 2 saves. For Pelton, he finishes the two game weekend with 3 goals and 2 assists.
"The guys came out today and played well again," commented Gary McIntosh, Eagle head coach. "We got some early looks on goal but could not get one home. In the second half, we finally broke through and got a goal. Joel (Pelton) got us going with a great goal and then things really started to click for us. Our defense was great and Joe (Galbraith) played another great game in goal. It was nice to have the shutout and nice to be able to get both wins this weekend.:
