Emily Tsugawa battles Kristin Krieger for possession
Corban Earns Key Win, Defeats Warner Pacific
BOX SCORE
PORTLAND, Ore. – Corban earned a crucial Cascade Conference win with a 3-0 decision over Warner Pacific in women’s soccer action at David Douglas High School today.
The visiting Warriors (8-6, 3-3 CCC) moved into a tie with Warner Pacific (4-3-1, 3-3 CCC) in the CCC standings. Both squads have nine points and are fighting for playoff position in 4th place.
The host Knights nearly snuck in a goal in the opening minutes. A mixup on the Warrior defense allowed the ball to fall at Alison Romick’s feet with Corban keeper Alexis Beattie off her line. Romick’s 20 yard chip went just wide however, allowing the Warriors to escape unscathed.
After settling in, Audrey Sullivan got Corban on the board in the 27th minute, taking a pass from Emily Tsugawa at the top of the penalty area, turning and firing past Knight keeper Nikita Rivera.
Corban continued to apply pressure in the second period, and Tsugawa broke through at the 62:20 mark for a score thanks to a looping cross from Amanda Mendenhall. The final goal was tallied again by Sullivan, who slotted home a shot after a Tsugawa centering pass.
Warner Pacific nearly earned a consolation goal in the closing moments, but Sam Goldammer’s free kick from 20 yards went inches wide left.
The Warriors won nine corner kicks on the day compared to one for WPC, and Corban outshot the Knights 14-5.
Beattie made two saves to collect the shutout for Corban. Rivera stopped six shots in the loss for WP.
The contest was the final home game for three Warner Pacific seniors; Mila Miller, Kristin Krieger, and Julie Schmitz.
