Macy Egerman had a goal and assist in C of I 5-0 win
CALDWELL, Idaho - Macy Egerman and Taylor Culver each had a goal and an assist, leading The College of Idaho to a 5-0 victory over Eastern Oregon in the Cascade Conference women's soccer opener for both teams at Simplot Stadium.
The win for the Lady Yotes (3-5, 1-0 CCC) ended a five-game losing streak and was their fourth win in a row over the rival Mountaineers (2-5, 0-1)
The C of I dominated the first half, holding a commanding 14-0 shot advantage, but managed just a Chelsea Heffner goal in the 20th minute off a nice centering pass from Alex Suggs. Eastern would pick up the intensity in the second half, getting their best chance in the 71st minute, when a Mauriana Gonzalez shot from 25-yards was nabbed by keeper Aimee Pierson.
The Coyotes would put the game away in the final 15 minutes - as Culver started a scoring barrage by heading home an Egerman corner kick. In the 84th minute, Culver played a great through-ball at midfield to a streaking Jessica Ayala, who converted the 1-on-1 opportunity for a three-goal lead. The C of I wasn't done, as Egerman took a great cross from Kelly Hardegree-Ullman in the 87th minute to make it 4-0, with Brianna Strodtbeck scoring her first collegiate goal, a 15-yard dart off a pass from Sarah Neufeld, in the waning seconds.
A 26-2 edge in total shots and a 9-2 edge in corner kicks told the story for the Coyotes, but Eastern stayed close, as keeper Chantal Schefers made seven saves. Pierson needed just one save to record her first collegiate shutout.
The Lady Yotes return to action next weekend, traveling to Portland, for road games at Concordia and Warner Pacific.
