No. 4 Concordia Defeats Northwest
KIRKLAND, Wash. - After a close, 2-1 first half, No. 4 Concordia scored two second half goals to defeat Northwest U., 4-1, in Cascade Conference play on a windy and wet Saturday afternoon. With the win, Concordia stretched their winning streak to nine, remained unbeaten in league play and maintained a firm hold on first place in the conference.
Northwest put Concordia on the scoreboard in the 8th minute of a game as they knocked in an own goal. Concordia increased their lead to 2-0 at the 20:02 mark as Alex Thomas scored from 14 yards out on the right side off a double assist from teammates Erin Huisingh and Jackie Hendrickson.
Eight minutes later (28:48), Northwest pulled to within a goal when Acacia Johnson score her goal from the right side of the goal, 12 yards out on a pass from Rachel Saleen. The half would end with Concordia leading, 2-1.
In the second half, Alex Thomas score her second goal in the 68th minute after taking Jasmine Ayala’s cross from the right corner and putting it in from 12 yards out. Less than three minutes later, it was Ayala heading in the ball over the NU goalkeeper after a keeper deflection off Brittany Orr’s free kick.
Concordia’s (12-3-1, 7-0-0 CCC) goalkeeper notched the win with 6 saves while Northwest (7-3-4, 3-1-2 CCC) Jordan Holmes had 5 saves for the Eagles. Concordia held a slight edge in shots, 17-14, and corner kicks, 8-4.
Northwest U. will remain at home and will host Warner Pacific on Monday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. and Concordia will travel to Olympia on Monday to take on the Evergreen State College at 3 p.m.
