OLYMPIA, Wash. – With all the scoring coming in the second period, the Evergreen Geoducks earned a 3-1 win over the visiting Oregon Tech Owls in the Cascade Conference women’s soccer season finale for both teams on Monday afternoon in Evergreen Pitch in Olympia, Wash.

After a windy and scoreless first half, the Geoducks (5-9-1, 3-6-0 CCC) struck first, just over three minutes into the second period after a collision between an Oregon Tech (5-9-1, 3-6-0 CCC) defender and goalie Rebekah Matteri left the goal wide open for senior Brianna Speed, her fourth goal of the season and 10th of her career.

Oregon Tech scored the equalizer in the 60th minute after Brooke Cole chipped a perfect ball over the head of Evergreen keeper Lauren Davidson to tie the game at 1-1.  Evergreen took the lead again in the 74th minute when Speed put in a free kick from the right side and Shani Ramentogot a head on it, directing in just inside the right post.

The Geoducks got one more in the 87th minute as senior Anastasia Daniels took a cross from Erin Hardy and Daniels finished from five yards out for her team-leading seventh goal of the season, giving Evergreen the 3-1 win.

Despite allowing the three goals, Matteri was solid in net for the Owls, making 11 saves as Evergreen outshot Oregon Tech, 24-13.  Davidson was also impressive, making seven saves for the green and white.

The Geoducks, who were picked by the CCC coaches to finish 10th in the preseason poll, wrap up 2011 with a record of 5-9-1 and 3-6-0 in conference play, well enough to tie for sixth place in the final standings with Oregon Tech and Warner Pacific.
