(KLAMATH FALLS, Ore.) Meghan Drost scored a Golden Goal 3 minutes into the second overtime to lift Oregon Tech over Warner Pacific College Monday night at Trevor Derrah Field. The Lady Owls improve to 1-1 in CCC play and 3-3-1 on the season with the victory. The Lady Knights fall to 0-2 in CCC play and 1-2-1 on the season with the loss.
The teams battled to a scoreless first half with Oregon Tech holding a 10-5 advantage in shots and a 1-0 edge in shots on goal.
Oregon Tech finally broke through in the 70th minute when Rebekah Nisbet sent a corner kick in front of the goal and after the ball slipped through the hands of the keeper, Melanie Johnson chipped the ball in, giving The Lady Owls a 1-0 lead.
Warner Pacific quickly answered the Tech goal when Samantha Horvath took the ball from a defender and shot a hard line drive past Oregon Tech’s goalie from 30 yards away, tying the game at 1-1 in the 78th minute, eventually sending the game to overtime.
The first overtime was evenly played with each team making a couple of runs but good keeper play on both sides kept the game tied at 1-1.
Meghan Drost sent the home crowd home happy when she beat a defender along the left sideline and hit a low line drive that hooked in past a diving keeper giving Oregon Tech a 2-1 Golden Goal win in the second overtime.
Oregon Tech held a 25-15 advantage in shots for the game and a 8-5 advantage in shots on goal.
Tech Keeper Rebekah Matteri was credited with 4 saves in picking up the win. Warner Pacific Keeper Nikita Rivera played well with 6 saves but picked up the loss.
Oregon Tech will next play at Northwest Christian University in Eugene, Ore. this Saturday, October 8th at 3:00pm with Warner Pacific heading home to host Eastern Oregon University in Portland, Ore. also on Saturday.
