Northwest Sweeps Two Game Series
COLLEGE PLACE, Wash. - Northwest University defeated Walla Walla University, 85-57, tonight to sweep their two game series with the Wolves. With the victory, NU improves to 6-0 on the season.
Northwest U. took a 36-26 lead in the first half on 15-36 shooting (42%) and a cool 17% from the 3-point line (2-12), while the Eagle defense limited WWU to 35% shooting.
In the second half, defense was the key once again as NU limited Walla Walla to 34% from 2-point range and 26% from the 3-point line while the Eagles heated up to shoot 49% and improved their 3-point shooting to 33% (5 for 15). In one stretch, senior Rich Skillman would catch fire hitting 14 points in a 4 minute span which included four 3-pointers.
Skillman led Northwest U. (6-0) with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Jason Waltman contributed 15 points and grabbed 9 rebounds while teammates Ahmaad Cook and Michael Greene each dropped in 12 for the Eagles.
"I was pleased with the result tonight and felt we played with more of a sense of urgency and were better defensively," stated John Van Dyke, Eagle head coach. Over all, I'm pleased with our effort as Walla Walla is a tough place to play."
NU will remain on the road next week as they travel to Newberg, Oregon, to take on George Fox University on Nov. 19 at 8 p.m.
