ANGWIN, Calif. – Five Southern Oregon players scored in double figures as the Raiders won their sixth consecutive game to start the season, 84-73 over Pacific Union Monday night.
Southern Oregon, 6-0 this season, returns to action Friday in Klamath Falls, when the Raiders will face William Jessup at 3 p.m. as part of the Oregon Tech Tournament. Pacific Union falls to 1-1 with the loss.
The Raiders struggled with their shooting, connecting on only 28 of 78 shot attempts for a percentage of 35.9. However, the SOU defense limited the Pioneers to 32.4 percent shooting (22-of-68) in the contest. The Raiders took a 36-33 lead into halftime and pulled away in the second half to the 84-73 victory.
Krysten Copeland and Angelica Thomas tied for the team lead with 13 points apiece, with Molly Doran adding 11 and Haley Newell and RaTanya Newsome each tallying 10 points in the victory. Nalani Hernanded grabbed 10 rebounds, while Copeland finished with nine boards to fall one short of the double-double.
Lara Canders finished with a game-high 22 points for Pacific Union, with Carla Bartlett scoring 12 and Alexandra Santinello finishing with 11. Kaitlyn Knab’s 11 rebounds led both teams.
