EUGENE, Ore. – The No. 10 Eastern Oregon University men’s basketball team was upset on the road at New Hope Christian College, 77-76.

The Deacons’ (1-6) Quincy Alexander hit a three-pointer from near half-court with 0.2 seconds remaining in regulation to give NHCC the final advantage. The basket came right after Travares Peterson hit a lay-in to give the Mountaineers a 76-74 lead with five seconds remaining in the game.

Alexander finished with 16 points and nine assists. Forrest Stolk led New Hope Christian with 17 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks. Harley Turner added 17 points and Corey Gantt had 16.

The Deacons led 42-31 at halftime, after three lead changes and three ties in the first half. New Hope Christian stretched its lead to 46-31 to open the second half, its largest advantage of the evening. The Mountaineers would rally and come within two points late in the game before NHCC took an eight point lead with 2:38 remaining in regulation.

Eastern rallied to take a one-point lead with 57 seconds left. Alexander would then make one of two free throws with 25 seconds remaining. Peterson’s and Alexander’s final baskets would follow.

The Mountaineers were led by Peterson’s 18 points. Trent Roos and Jeff Ranstrom each scored 12 points, Anthony Brown had 11 and JaMier Morris finished with 10. Brown had seven rebounds and Morris threw four assists.

Eastern Oregon shot 42 percent from the field, compared to the Deacons’ 50 percent. NHCC made 9 of its 21 three-pointers, while the Mountaineers were 8 for 23. EOU was 14 for 23 from the free-throw line and New Hope Christian was 10 of 21.

The Mountaineers (6-1) have a week off before traveling to Lewis and Clark in Portland on Nov. 26. Live video will be available on EOUSports.com.
