Northwest Falls to #3 Bruins
KIRKLAND, Wash. - The Northwest University Eagles fell to the #3 ranked George Fox University Bruins tonight, 81-62, in a non-league game in Newberg, Oregon.
George Fox, ranked #3 in the NCAA Division III poll and returning all five starters from last season's "Elite Eight" team which finished with a 25-6 record, broke out to an early 21-8 lead 7:16 into the first half and would maintain that distance until Ashley Coila would pull NU to within nine, 24-15, with 7:49 to go in the half. But Jami Roos' 3-pointer with 3:37 remaining would put the Bruins up 36-19. Ebany Herd would hit a jumper with 1:16 to go to end the scoring as GFU would lead 42-24 at the break.
George Fox would heat up in the second half as they would hit 456% of their 2-point attempts and a hot 56% from the 3-point line (5-9). NU would hit 37% of their shots, but would be limited to only 1-7 from beyond the 3-point arc (14%). George Fox would maintain their lead the entire half as they would cruise to their second straight win of the season.
Northwest's (1-4) senior post, Jessalyn Jackson led the Eagles with 22 points and sophomore guard, Domi Mendezona, dropped in 16 points. Ebany Herd contributed 8 points for NU which would hit only 1 of 13 shots from the 3-point line tonight.
George Fox (2-0) was led by Jami Roos' 20 points while teammate Hannah Munger scored a double-double with 14 points and 17 rebounds. Keisha Gordon also registered a double-double with her 12 points and 12 rebounds. GFU held the rebounding edge with a 57-35 advantage including 18 offensive boards.
The Eagles will return home and will host Whitman College on Nov. 23 at 4 p.m. in the Pavilion.
