EUGENE, Ore. – The Northwest Christian University men’s basketball team shot 55% from the field in the second half on Saturday night to pull away from Simpson University in an 88-61 victory. The Beacons led by as many as 33 points in the game.
The Beacons (3-3) were led by Jordan Buhler, scoring 17 points to go with six assists, five rebounds and three steals. Brian Hampton added 16 points and five assists, hitting a pair of three-pointers and Trevor Parker added 13 points shooting 6-for-10 from the floor. Brody McGowan came off the bench to lead all players with eight rebounds, adding nine points. NCU out-rebounded the Red Hawks 48-37 and pulled in 21 offensive boards.
The large second-half lead allowed the Beacons to clear the bench late in the game, giving every rostered player at least three minutes of action. Calvin Philpott collected four rebounds in four minutes of work and Darrell Risen added two points and two boards in the same amount of time. Calvin Green played in his first collegiate game for NCU and scored four points in just three minutes of action.
Simpson (0-8) was led by Brian Castillo who hit four three-pointers and tied for the game-high with 17 points. He was the only player in double-figures for the Red Hawks, who shot 35% from the field and were outscored 32-21 off the bench.
Northwest Christian will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to face Pacific University at 8:00 pm.
