FOREST GROVE, Ore. – A first-half power outage, which stopped the game for over 15 minutes, was fraught with symbolism for the Northwest Christian University men’s basketball team on Tuesday night as the Beacons had their lowest scoring game on record in a 65-37 defeat at Pacific University.
The Beacons previously known record for futility was a 43-point effort in 1978 against Whitworth College. Tonight’s 37 point game was punctuated by 26% shooting, including a 1-for-18 night from three-point range.
NCU (3-4) was led in scoring by Brody McGowan who came off the bench to score 12 points, shooting 6-for-8 from the field, along with a team-high five rebounds. Jordan Buhler added six points.
The Boxers (2-0) were led by Colin Webster’s 22 points and five assists. Charles Mosley added 12 points and nine rebounds as Pacific out-rebounded the Beacons 35-27, despite 13 offensive rebounds for NCU.
Northwest Christian University will be back in action on Friday night when they return home to face Saint Martin’s University at 7:00 pm. Any fan bringing an unwrapped toy or a $10 gift card to a store such as Target or Walmart, for Lane County foster children, will receive a concessions voucher good for a free soda, popcorn and choice of pretzel or nachos.
